Light ON Foundation provides alternative and expanded healing opportunities to survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse and other forms of interpersonal trauma. The programs offered by Light ON demonstrate positive effects on a local level in Hawaii. Our goal is to become a model for healing the effects of individual and community trauma that can be adapted and used effectively in any location.
At Light ON we believe that empowering adult survivors of abuse is the most effective way to end the cycle of sexual abuse of children. Adults who have been abused often have to shut out their own experiences of trauma in order to try to function in everyday life. This denial for the purpose of coping can make it difficult to recognize or be able to respond to abuse that may be continuing to happen in their families or communities. When adult survivors experience their own empowerment and healing they become less reactive to abuse and more responsive. It is this empowering responsiveness to the issues of sexual abuse, child abuse and domestic violence that can and will create change.
